He was previously our Afghanistan correspondent, and, for three years, our roving Africa correspondent, based in Nairobi. For much of that time, he also worked for the Guardian and the BBC. He began writing freelance journalism in Tokyo, while conducting postgraduate studies in Japanese theatre. |
